Cutting up the spalted beech tree…
Wordsworth cedar pens are now available!
Wordsworth’s cedar
This new project is quite exciting, so expect to see plenty more updates over the coming months!
Huge burr elm blanks
Supersize bowl in the making
This is the largest piece of yew I have turned for some time, measuring well over two feet across. Just moving it around the yard was difficult and mounting it on the lathe was a pain!
Preparing this years timber
This winter's rough turning is well underway and I've loads of beautiful wood to work with!
Beautiful burr elm bowl
First of all, I must apologise for the lack of updates on my blog recently - although I've been quite busy over the past few months, I never seem to have a camera close at hand!
Gorgeous yew wood
I've just purchased this enormous yew tree butt, which had recently been felled by a tree surgeon.
Stunning burr elm bowl
I prepared the blank for this incredible piece about eighteen months ago and have been eager to complete it ever since!
Double lampshade commission
Here's some images of a recent commission, which I completed and installed last week. Both lampshades have been turned from wych elm and measure approximately 13" diameter.
Supersize cherry bowl
I've just prepared and roughed out this giant cherry bowl, ready for the drying process ahead. This piece has been commissioned by a customer, since the tree sadly had to be felled.
Natural edge serving boards
I've been looking at the design and styling of my serving boards and have decided to try something different.
My latest designs for Tom Aikens
It's great to be working with Tom again and I'm excited to be involved with his new restaurant.
Natural edge ash bowl
Quite a lot of sanding was required to finish this piece, due mainly to movement and vibration - the grain had certainly fused together and didn't want to be turned!
My new shorter salt and pepper mills
I have been asked quite a few times if I make a shorter version of my crush mills and this is something I have been working on for the past few months.
Salt and pepper mills in the making (part 1)
Here I have an assortment of blanks, all destined to become salt and pepper mills - I thought I'd post some images of these being made, as there are so many processes involved!
Around the island art trail
During the last two weekends in September, I'll be opening my workshop to the public, along with five more artists and makers. There'll be ceramics, paintings, woodwork and sculpture - more details will be coming soon!
Natural edge burr elm bowls
I've just completed these two amazing burr elm bowls and will be featuring them in my gallery soon.
Large wavy edge yew bowl
Here's some images of an impressive natural edge design I've completed, which will soon be featured on my site.
Gorgeous burr elm
Here's some photo's of my latest trip to the sawmill - what better way to start the New Year, than with a nice pile of wood to process!
