Roo's summerhouse is taking shape

Earlier this year, I posted some photo’s of Roo’s summerhouse, just after the main framework had been assembled. Although the bad weather slowed things down a little, the build is now well underway.

As you can see, all of the structural timbers are in place, including those for the flat roof of the veranda. The outside has been covered over with a waterproof sheet for now, but all will be revealed soon.

Oak shingles are being used for the roof, which look fantastic when viewed from the inside. They are made from long strips, which I machined to size on a Woodmizer. The strips were then cross cut to length, making sure all defects were removed. No sapwood can be included, as this would rot away fairly quickly.

The flat roof will be covered with sedum, which is supposed to require only minimal care. It will gain some weight when wet, so needs a solid base to sit on. The photo below shows the ash stakes, which support the very well disguised marine ply!...
