Gorgeous burr elm

Here’s some photo’s of my latest trip to the sawmill - what better way to start the New Year, than with a nice new pile of wood to process!

Burr elm is possibly my favourite wood, though becoming increasingly harder to find. Back in 2016 I purchased a large pile of off cuts and have just done the same again. With such an incredible mix of colours, this remarkable wood is the perfect choice for the more creative designs I produce, especially the bowls and lampshades.

I visited A&J Scotts during November last year and chose a variety of interesting pieces. Here you can see the first ones being loaded up…

Although hollow at one end, this piece is huge and heavily burred down both sides. It was too big to take away, but will be arriving on a wagon soon...

All loaded up and ready for the trip home. With four vehicles and drivers, it was certainly a fun day out! Many thanks to the team for all their help...
