I've been helping thin out a local woodland, which has become far too overgrown. Quite a few of the trees are tangled together, including this larger ash. In fact this particular one had to be felled, since it was smothering a smaller elm.

I've been lucky to witness the building of this lovely green oak structure, which will be a summerhouse when finally completed. It's designer, Roo, specializes in working with green oak and has a passion for traditional skills and sustainability.

With all the gales we've had of late, it was only a matter of time before something came down nearby. I had my hopes pinned on a lovely burr elm, but I'll settle for an ash, if it's free!

Ive just been helping with a major tree planting project which will likely take all winter to complete. This is one of the many outside jobs I love doing and gives me a huge amount of satisfaction.

Collecting timber is a big part of my work, but this is slightly more challenging! I was approached last week by a friend who needs some help thinning out her woodland. Although there are some larger ash and sycamore trees, the majority are oaks which were planted in the mid 80s and have not been tended to since.
